Israel launched 5G service on Tuesday, granting licenses for operating the network to three companies, the Israeli communication office said.

JERUSALEM — Israel launched 5G service on Tuesday, granting licenses for operating the network to three companies, the Israeli communication office said.
The licenses were given to three large telecom companies which are Pelephone, Hot Mobile and Partner Communications.
“As of today, there is 5G in Israel,” Communication Minister Yoaz Hendel wrote on Twitter. He added that the move will help Israel take a leading role in the global field of communication after the country “has been lagging behind for a decade.”
Liran Avisar Ben-Horin, director-general of the communication ministry, also stressed the importance of upgrading the current cellular networks.
She added that the ministry is already working on issuing new tenders to extend additional frequencies.
