PLDT joined a recent event at the University of the Philippines to discuss how sustainability is becoming a bigger part of investment decisions. The session was part of “UPIC Investor Insights: PSE Listed Company Showcase,” organized by Luna Securities and the UP Investment Club, a student-run group focused on financial education.

Speaking to students interested in the stock market, PLDT shared how investors are beginning to look beyond profits and consider how companies handle environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.

Melissa Vergel de Dios, PLDT’s first vice president and chief sustainability officer, explained the shift in thinking.

“Sustainability is not just a supplementary component of our strategy; it is a business imperative and an opportunity to create shared value,” she said. “By embedding environmental and social considerations into our business decisions, we are not only future-proofing our operations but also driving long-term growth and meaningful impact.”

During her talk, Vergel de Dios outlined how PLDT is working to reduce its carbon footprint and improve its services through energy efficiency projects and artificial intelligence. She also noted the company’s continued investment in digital infrastructure to help improve access across the country.

The session was part of PLDT’s broader effort to engage with younger audiences and share how ESG practices are being applied in business. The company said it plans to continue participating in similar events to exchange ideas and highlight ways sustainability can be built into long-term business strategies.
