AMD has officially launched its highly anticipated Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards, introducing the AMD RDNA 4 architecture. The flagship models, the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, deliver significant advancements in gaming performance, featuring enhanced raytracing capabilities, AI-driven acceleration, and 16GB of high-speed memory.

“Today, we’re thrilled to unveil the AMD Radeon RX 9000 series, a significant leap forward in graphics performance powered by our next-generation AMD RDNA 4 architecture,” said David McAfee, corporate vive president and general manager, Ryzen CPU and Radeon Graphics at AMD. “These GPUs are designed to meet the demands of today’s games, delivering enthusiast-class gaming experiences while being ready to support tomorrow’s innovations. Through the power of advanced AI and Raytracing accelerators, we’re not just improving frame rates – we’re fundamentally enhancing the gaming experience.”

New era of gaming performance

During a YouTube Premier event, McAfee was joined by AMD executives Andrej Zdravkovic, SVP of GPU Technologies and Engineering, and Andy Pomianowski, CVP of Silicon Design Engineering, to showcase the performance and value proposition of the new graphics cards. Simultaneously, a regional event was held in Zhuhai, China, led by Jack Huynh, SVP of the Client and Graphics Group at AMD. Industry leaders and AMD partners, including ASUS, Gigabyte, and Sapphire, also celebrated the launch.

Jack Huynh emphasized the series’ impact on the gaming landscape, stating, “With the Radeon RX 9000 series, we are delivering next-gen performance at exceptional value. Gamers can now experience incredibly realistic lighting, shadows, and reflections, thanks to our improved raytracing capabilities.”

Key innovations and features

The Radeon RX 9000 series introduces a suite of cutting-edge enhancements:

– Unified RDNA 4 Compute Units: Up to 64 advanced compute units provide a 40% increase in gaming performance over RDNA 3.

– High-Performance Raytracing: The third-generation raytracing accelerators deliver over 2x the throughput per compute unit compared to the previous generation.

– Supercharged AI Acceleration: Second-generation AI accelerators offer up to 8x INT8 throughput per AI accelerator (for sparse matrices), dramatically improving AI-driven graphics and gaming efficiency.

– AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4): The latest ML-powered upscaling technology enhances 4K gaming with maximum raytracing settings, with support in over 30 games at launch.

– HYPR-RX Technology: Integrated features such as Radeon Super Resolution, Fluid Motion Frames 2.1, and Radeon Anti-Lag boost responsiveness and frame rates.

– AI-Enhanced Adrenalin Edition Software: New tools such as AMD Chat and the App Portal allow gamers to optimize their systems with AI-driven performance enhancements.

– Next-Generation Display Support: The Radeon RX 9000 series supports DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b, enabling resolutions up to 8K at 144Hz and ultra-smooth gameplay.

“AMD continues to push the boundaries of gaming graphics,” said David Wang, SVP of GPU Technology and Engineering. “RDNA 4 is built for the future, optimizing AI-driven gaming, enhanced media, and high-resolution display support.”

Exceptional value

Gamers looking to upgrade will find that the Radeon RX 9000 series offers significant improvements over previous generations. The Radeon RX 9070 XT outperforms the RX 7900 GRE by over 40% on average in 1440p gaming, while the RX 9070 delivers more than a 20% performance increase.

The Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards will be available from leading board partners, including Acer, ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, XFX, and Yeston, starting March 6, 2025. The Radeon RX 9070 XT is priced at $599 USD, while the Radeon RX 9070 will retail for $549 USD.
