TECH NEWS | Block Awards 2025 recognizes PH blockchain innovators
Hosted by the Blockchain Council of the Philippines, the 2025 edition introduced new categories including Regional, Community, Brand, and Youth Excellence Awards.

The Block Awards returned this year with an expanded format and renewed mission to spotlight individuals and organizations pushing blockchain innovation across the Philippines.
Hosted by the Blockchain Council of the Philippines, the 2025 edition introduced new categories including Regional, Community, Brand, and Youth Excellence Awards. The additions mark a shift toward broader recognition, especially for grassroots and youth-led efforts.
Top honors went to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Emilio Aquino and former Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa Sigue, who were named Block Awards Leaders of the Year in the Government and Private sectors, respectively.
“This award tells me that the effort to innovate—especially in government—is worth it,” Aquino said. “That learning never ends. And that leadership is not about being the loudest voice in the room, but being the one who listens, studies, and takes the first step forward.”
Sigue, now a private citizen, dedicated her award to community leaders and innovators: “It is for every leader who dedicates their time to truly listen to the whispers of innovation, to the needs of our communities, and to the aspirations of our nation.”
Other winners included CoinsPH (Best Web3 Customer Experience), Coach Miranda Miner (Blockchain Educator of the Year), Pitaka.io (Most Innovative Blockchain Project), and Gelo Wong (Web3 Youth Advocate). Regional champions from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao were also honored, reflecting the awards’ national reach.
A jury led by GCash’s Luis Buenaventura and composed of industry veterans from DTaka, Maya, Galeria Paloma, and Bitskwela selected this year’s honorees. For the first time, the public was invited to participate in the voting process.
“We’re always excited to see a diverse set of nominees each year,” said Buenaventura. “We’re humbled by the contributions—both great and small—from all corners of our vibrant ecosystem.”
Winners also received one-of-one NFT trophies—digital artworks curated by Blockchain Council trustee Sheree Gotuaco in collaboration with ScarletBox. Each piece merged the legacy of National Artist Jose Joya with the contemporary style of his grandnephew Andre Baldovino, printed as museum-grade giclée editions.
“The Block Awards is more than a celebration—it’s a call to action,” said Donald Lim, president of the Blockchain Council of the Philippines. “Every honoree represents the growing movement to make blockchain part of our everyday lives, from government systems to grassroots communities.”
The awards aim to serve as a national platform to elevate blockchain builders, educators, and advocates, positioning the Philippines as a leader in the evolving digital economy.
