The Nagoya City Fire Bureau has ordered an Airbus H160 helicopter to boost its capabilities in firefighting, search and rescue, and disaster response operations.

Airbus confirmed the order on July 17, saying the H160 will support reconnaissance of affected areas and be equipped with tools for aerial firefighting, including a bucket or a belly-mounted water tank.

“We are honored that our long-standing customer Nagoya City Fire Bureau has selected the H160 for their vital missions,” said Jean-Luc Alfonsi, managing director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan. “We’re confident it will make a meaningful impact, and we remain fully committed to supporting their operations.”

The H160 will replace one of the Bureau’s two AS365N3 helicopters, marking a shift toward more modern aerial support. The Bureau began helicopter operations in 1973 with an Allouette III.

The H160 is designed for safety and mission flexibility. Already in use in countries including Japan, France, the U.S., and Brazil, it can handle various roles from emergency medical services to law enforcement and offshore transport.

Airbus Helicopters has operated in Japan for 65 years and currently supports around 380 helicopters nationwide. Three H160s are already flying in the country — two for law enforcement and one for news gathering. The latest order adds to the growing Japanese fleet and highlights the aircraft’s versatility and reliability.
