Apple confirmed it will hold a product launch on Sept. 9 at its California headquarters, with the event expected to showcase the iPhone 17 series and a slimmer version of its flagship smartphone.
CEO Tim Cook teased the announcement in a post on X on Aug. 26, writing, “Get ready for an awe dropping #AppleEvent.” The launch will also be streamed live at 1 p.m. ET.
According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 17 lineup will include redesigned Pro and Pro Max models with larger camera housings. The standard iPhone 17 is expected to retain much of the iPhone 16’s design but feature a bigger display and improved cameras.
A thinner version of the iPhone 17 could be Apple’s first major new form factor in years. Reports suggest it will be about 2 millimeters slimmer than existing models but may have shorter battery life and just one rear camera.
Bloomberg also reported that Apple is preparing an updated Vision Pro headset with a faster processor, along with a new iPad Pro powered by the M5 chip and featuring a second front-facing camera.
The event comes as Apple faces mounting pressure to catch up in artificial intelligence. While rivals have advanced in generative AI, Apple has yet to release models that run natively on its devices. Cook told employees earlier this month that Apple “has to win in AI” and said a more personalized version of Siri is set for release in 2026.
