European multinational aerospace corporation Airbus has reinforced its position in the Asia-Pacific defense and aerospace market through two major developments: the Royal Thai Air Force’s (RTAF) addition of two H225 helicopters to its fleet, and a new collaboration agreement with Australian communications firm Omnitronics to enhance critical communications interoperability.

Thai Air Force expands H225 fleet

The Royal Thai Air Force has received two more Airbus H225 helicopters, bringing its total fleet to 12 aircraft. The delivery marks another milestone in Thailand’s ongoing modernization of its air mobility capabilities, strengthening its capacity for combat search and rescue, disaster relief, and troop transport missions.

Airbus said the H225, part of its Super Puma family, is designed for long-range missions and known for its endurance, advanced avionics, and autopilot systems. “We are honored by the Royal Thai Air Force’s continued trust in the H225,” said Bruno Even, Airbus Helicopters chief executive officer. “This delivery underscores our long-term partnership and commitment to supporting Thailand’s operational readiness.”

The aircraft will be maintained through Airbus’s local maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) network, which provides technical support and training for the RTAF’s rotary-wing units. The company noted that its presence in Thailand extends beyond defense, as it continues to provide both civilian and military operators with a range of aerospace solutions.

The new helicopters are expected to bolster Thailand’s response capabilities, particularly during typhoons and natural disasters where air mobility plays a critical role in humanitarian assistance. The acquisition also reflects the government’s strategic emphasis on multi-mission aircraft that can adapt to various operational needs.

Airbus and Omnitronics forge new communications alliance

In a parallel development, Airbus Defence and Space signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Omnitronics, an Australian communications technology company, to explore interoperability solutions for mission-critical communications.

The partnership will combine Airbus’s secure communication systems with Omnitronics’ digital radio gateways and dispatch technologies. The goal is to improve how defense, emergency, and industrial organizations connect across different radio networks—particularly in complex operations requiring real-time coordination.

“By combining our expertise, we can deliver secure and flexible communication solutions that help our customers respond faster and more effectively,” said Evert Dudok, executive vice president of Airbus Defence and Space’s Connected Intelligence division.

Omnitronics CEO Michael Ridley emphasized that the collaboration aims to overcome long-standing interoperability barriers that have limited communication between agencies using different radio systems. The companies will jointly develop and test integrated systems to support defense, aviation, and public safety sectors across Asia-Pacific.

Growing presence in Asia-Pacific

The two initiatives highlight Airbus’s growing influence in the region’s defense and aerospace industries. From advanced rotary platforms like the H225 to integrated communications solutions, Airbus continues to deepen its relationships with governments and industry partners throughout Asia-Pacific.

With Thailand’s expanding fleet and new technology partnerships in Australia, Airbus is positioning itself not only as a leading aircraft manufacturer but as a strategic partner for the region’s modernization and defense readiness programs.
