GADGETS | Tech giants push AI, durability in new wave of smart devices
From OPPO’s art-inspired Find X9 and Samsung’s Galaxy AI tablets to vivo’s gamer-ready V60 Lite and HONOR’s AI-driven partnership with BYD, global tech leaders are shaping the next phase of intelligent living for Filipinos and beyond.

From OPPO’s art-inspired Find X9 and Samsung’s Galaxy AI tablets to vivo’s gamer-ready V60 Lite and HONOR’s water-resistant X7d, global tech leaders are redefining how Filipinos create, play, and live in an increasingly intelligent and durable digital world.
The latest generation of smart devices doesn’t just focus on speed or style — it’s about resilience, intelligence, and seamless integration. Each brand is betting that advanced AI, powerful imaging, and smarter ecosystems will drive the next phase of connected living.

HONOR makes a splash with X7d
HONOR’s latest midrange smartphone, the X7d, debuted with a literal splash. The device, designed with an IP54 rating for water and dust resistance, demonstrated its toughness during a public launch that tested its ability to survive accidental spills and brief immersion.
The X7d continues HONOR’s push for high-value durability and AI-enhanced mobile experiences, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ 5G chipset and a 6,000mAh battery with 35W HONOR SuperCharge. Its 108MP triple camera system supports AI-based scene recognition and image optimization, aligning with the brand’s broader ecosystem focus on intelligent imaging.
During the event, HONOR Philippines Vice President Stephen Cheng highlighted the company’s dedication to practical innovation. “The HONOR X7d proves that performance and durability don’t have to come at a premium,” Cheng said.
The device, available for pre-order until October 30, comes with a free HONOR Bluetooth Speaker for early buyers. It will retail at P11,999 in two color variants: Midnight Black and Emerald Green.

Smartphones get smarter
OPPO, meanwhile, has teased its Find X9, set for a global launch in Barcelona on October 28. With its Hasselblad Master Camera System and 120x zoom, the Find X9 merges artistry with AI-powered image science through OPPO’s LUMO Imaging Engine.
At just 7.99mm thick, the Find X9’s Titanium Grey and Space Black finishes showcase OPPO’s focus on design and engineering. The device runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset and packs a 7,025mAh silicon-carbon battery with 80W SUPERVOOC and 50W AIRVOOC fast charging.
“Find X9 is a statement of craftsmanship and innovation for modern Filipino visionaries who value artistry and purpose,” OPPO said in a statement.

Samsung is pushing productivity through its Galaxy Tab S11 Series and Tab S10 Lite, featuring Galaxy AI and the upgraded Samsung DeX system. With One UI 8, new tools like Drawing Assist and Writing Assist enable AI-driven creativity. Early buyers can get a free Book Cover Keyboard Slim with the Tab S10 Lite (P19,990), while the Tab S11 Series starts at P52,990.

From play to productivity
vivo continues to expand its lineup with two key launches catering to gamers and everyday users.
At the entry level, the vivo Y04s provides reliability with its 6,000mAh BlueVolt Battery, 8GB RAM (4GB + 4GB extended), and 256GB storage, expandable up to 2TB — all for P6,499. The device carries SGS five-star drop resistance and IP64 dust and water protection, positioning it as a practical choice for students and field workers.

For gaming enthusiasts, the vivo V60 Lite brings high-performance specs with its Dimensity 7360-Turbo chipset, 6,500mAh BlueVolt battery, and 90W FlashCharge. The device made its local debut at the Honor of Kings (HOK) tournament at SM North Edsa, where Team Kurimeow tested its performance. “Zero lag and crisp, bright display,” the team captain said after the match.
The V60 Lite’s 6.77-inch AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, and dual stereo speakers make it suitable for both gamers and creators. Prices start at P14,999, available in Pop Pink, Titanium Blue, and Elegant Black.

Beyond the screen: connected mobility
HONOR also made headlines this month with its AI mobility partnership with BYD, one of the world’s leading new-energy vehicle manufacturers. The collaboration integrates HONOR AI Connect with BYD’s DiLink smart ecosystem, enabling seamless interaction between smartphones and electric vehicles.
The agreement, signed in Shenzhen by HONOR CEO James Li and BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu, expands their cooperation to include AI agent collaboration, Bluetooth-based digital keys, and co-branded smart mobility events.
“At HONOR, we believe that human-centric innovation is the key to maximizing technology’s potential,” Li said. “Our partnership with BYD is a strategic step toward a more intelligent mobility future.”
HONOR will showcase this expanded collaboration at the upcoming 2025 HONOR Global Developers Conference, where it plans to highlight new AI ecosystem features bridging mobile and automotive platforms.

Toward a smarter, stronger digital lifestyle
Whether through OPPO’s artistic precision, Samsung’s AI-powered creativity, vivo’s performance-driven gaming devices, or HONOR’s dual focus on durability and connected ecosystems, global tech brands are shaping a future that blends intelligence with endurance.
For Pinoy consumers, the 2025 wave of devices reflects a broader shift toward smarter living — where AI, design, and durability converge to enhance every aspect of the digital experience.
