Equinix Inc. unveiled a platform designed to help enterprises manage and scale artificial intelligence workloads across distributed computing environments, the company said Thursday.

The digital infrastructure provider introduced the Distributed AI Hub, a framework that allows organizations to connect data, compute resources and AI services across multiple locations through private, low-latency infrastructure across its global network of data centers.

The platform, powered by Equinix Fabric Intelligence, is intended to simplify how companies deploy AI applications that operate across public clouds, private data centers and edge environments. The company said enterprises increasingly face complexity as AI workloads and data are spread across multiple systems and geographic locations.

“Enterprises are racing to deploy agentic AI but are finding that their existing infrastructure was never designed for the complexities of distributed intelligence,” said Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president for digital infrastructure strategies at IDC.

IDC estimates that by 2027, about 80% of enterprises will deploy distributed edge infrastructure to improve the responsiveness and latency of AI applications.

According to Equinix, the hub provides a vendor-neutral environment where enterprises can connect to AI ecosystem partners, including model providers, GPU cloud operators, data platforms, network services and security tools. This approach allows organizations to run AI workloads where performance is most efficient without rebuilding infrastructure or transferring large datasets across platforms.

Jon Lin, chief business officer at Equinix, said the platform aims to address the operational challenges of running AI systems across multiple computing environments.

“AI isn’t centralized—but the right infrastructure can make it run as seamlessly as if it were,” Lin said. “Equinix is the neutral ground where AI, cloud and networking infrastructure converge.”

Equinix also announced an integration with Palo Alto Networks to strengthen AI security.

The partnership incorporates Palo Alto Networks’ Prisma AIRS technology into the hub, enabling real-time monitoring and policy enforcement for AI applications interacting with external tools and data sources. The security service will also be available on Equinix Network Edge, allowing organizations to manage AI security closer to users and distributed workloads.

Lloyd Taylor, chief technology officer and chief information security officer at Alembic, said managing where data resides and how compute resources operate is essential for large-scale AI deployments.

“The conversation around distributed AI is finally getting real,” Taylor said. “It’s more than compute and data, it’s controlling where the data lives and how the compute runs.”

Equinix said the Distributed AI Hub will be available globally through its network of 280 data center locations, allowing enterprises to deploy consistent AI infrastructure across multiple regions.
