SailPoint and Amazon Web Services (AWS) on March 16 announced a multi-year strategic collaboration to develop a unified identity governance layer aimed at securing AI-driven systems as organizations adopt agentic AI.

The agreement positions SailPoint as a preferred identity governance provider for AI workloads built on AWS and expands the companies’ existing partnership in identity security. The initiative focuses on managing both human and non-human identities, including AI agents, across AWS environments.

The collaboration comes as enterprises face growing security risks linked to AI agents that can act on behalf of users, applications and systems. These agents introduce new “non-human identities,” which companies must monitor and control to prevent unauthorized access.

SailPoint CEO Mark McClain said the rise of AI agents is creating additional attack surfaces that require stronger identity controls.

“The proliferation of AI agents is creating a new class of non-human identities, and each one represents a new attack surface,” McClain said. “For AI to be a true business accelerant, it must be built on a foundation of security.”

AWS Vice President Keshav Narsipur said organizations deploying AI need governance frameworks to support scaling.

“As customers build transformative new experiences, they need a trusted framework for security and governance,” Narsipur said. “This collaboration brings together SailPoint’s leadership in identity with the power of AWS.”

Under the agreement, the companies aim to build a single governance layer that provides visibility and control over identities interacting with AWS services. The system is expected to support lifecycle management, enforce access policies and enable continuous monitoring as AI workloads scale.

The collaboration will focus on several capabilities, including lifecycle governance for human, machine and AI identities; automated enforcement of least-privilege access based on real-time usage data; and a unified identity graph to map access relationships across systems and data.

It also includes automated policy enforcement, allowing organizations to revoke or adjust access based on changes in risk, roles or behavior.

SailPoint will integrate its identity security platform with AWS AgentCore to discover and manage AI agents as identities. The integration enables organizations to govern both human and AI-driven access in a single system, including identity lifecycle management, access reviews and policy enforcement.

Future capabilities are expected to allow organizations to provision accounts and manage access requests for AI agents directly through SailPoint.

A customer example cited in the announcement highlighted how identity automation can support compliance and scalability in complex environments.

The agreement also aims to expand go-to-market opportunities for both companies. SailPoint’s identity security offerings, including tools for machine and AI identities, are now available through AWS Marketplace.

The companies said the collaboration is intended to support organizations transitioning to cloud-based identity platforms while addressing security challenges associated with AI adoption.
