GAMING | Pokémon Champions launches on Nintendo Switch April 8
The game centers on Pokémon battles, using familiar mechanics such as types, abilities and moves, while introducing cross-platform play between console and mobile devices.
A new Pokémon battle-focused game will be released April 8 for the Nintendo Switch, with cross-platform features and free updates for newer hardware.
The Pokémon Company said Pokémon Champions will be available as a download-only title, with a mobile version for iOS and Android scheduled for release later in 2026.
The game centers on Pokémon battles, using familiar mechanics such as types, abilities and moves, while introducing cross-platform play between console and mobile devices.
A bundled version, Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack, will also be released April 8, offering additional in-game items and features.
Players using the Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a free update that enhances graphics performance. The update requires an internet connection to download.
The title will also integrate with Pokémon HOME, allowing players to transfer select Pokémon from previous games and Pokémon GO.
New content includes Mega Evolution forms for Meganium, Emboar and Feraligatr, each with unique abilities introduced in the game.
Pokémon Champions will follow a free-to-start model with optional in-game purchases and seasonal content, including a premium battle pass system.
The release expands the Pokémon franchise’s presence across platforms, combining console and mobile gameplay with shared progression systems.
