Keeper Security has introduced biometric login with FIDO2/WebAuthn passkeys on its Chrome and Edge browser extensions and Keeper Commander CLI, a move aimed at making passwordless authentication more accessible.

The update allows users to access their Keeper Vault using passkeys secured by biometrics or PINs on Windows devices through Windows Hello and on Mac devices via Touch ID. The feature eliminates the need to type passwords, while ensuring that biometric data never leaves the device.

“Security is shifting from passwords alone to stronger, more reliable methods,” said Craig Lurey, chief technology officer and co-founder of Keeper Security. “This industry-leading update lets users unlock their vaults using trusted, device-based credentials such as biometrics or PINs, reducing reliance on passwords that can be stolen or phished.”

Passkeys, based on the FIDO standards, provide cryptographically unique, device-bound credentials designed to replace traditional passwords with phishing-resistant authentication. By adopting FIDO2/WebAuthn, Keeper said it is delivering a more secure and convenient login experience across browsers, devices and platforms without requiring companion apps.

The company noted that its implementation works natively with Chromium-based browsers and integrates with Keeper Commander, its command-line and SDK interface. It also supports cross-platform passkey management, allowing users to create, store and autofill passkeys across mobile apps, desktop vaults and web browsers.

Keeper, a member of the FIDO Alliance, said the rollout aligns with industry efforts to reduce reliance on passwords. A recent company report found that 80% of organizations are already using or planning to adopt passkeys to counter threats such as phishing and credential stuffing, though many still face challenges managing hybrid authentication systems.

The Keeper browser extension is available through the company’s website, Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store. Keeper Commander CLI is available on its open-source GitHub repository.
