BUSINESS | Cloudflare launches Mesh for AI agent security
Cloudflare said Mesh enables organizations to create a private network connecting AI agents, human users and multicloud systems without exposing internal infrastructure to the public internet.

Cloudflare Inc. on April 15 launched Cloudflare Mesh, a private networking solution designed to secure connections between artificial intelligence agents, users and infrastructure.
The platform targets security challenges as organizations shift from experimental AI use to production systems, where AI agents require access to internal databases, application programming interfaces and cloud environments.
Cloudflare said Mesh enables organizations to create a private network connecting AI agents, human users and multicloud systems without exposing internal infrastructure to the public internet.
The system is designed to reduce reliance on traditional tools such as virtual private networks, which can be complex to manage and may introduce security risks when granting AI systems access to sensitive environments.
“AI agents are a standard in modern developer workflows, but they’re being throttled by a networking model that was designed strictly for humans,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare.
He said the platform is intended to provide secure access between AI agents and infrastructure without exposing systems to external threats.
Cloudflare Mesh assigns distinct identities to AI agents, allowing organizations to define granular access controls. For example, an AI agent can be allowed to access testing environments while being restricted from sensitive production data.
The platform also integrates with Cloudflare’s developer tools, enabling deployment of private connectivity across cloud environments and local systems.
Cloudflare said the system supports encrypted communication across networks and secure access to private services such as databases and internal applications.
The launch comes as enterprises expand the use of AI agents in software development and operations, increasing demand for security frameworks that manage access to sensitive systems.
