According to Smart, fraudsters increasingly target retailers through social engineering tactics, including attempts to obtain sensitive information or circumvent security measures by exploiting trust and creating a sense of urgency.

Smart brings scam awareness directly to Laguna and Cavite load retailers through CX Caravan (1)

Retailers in Laguna and Cavite received training on scam awareness and fraud prevention through a customer engagement program organized by Smart Communications Inc., highlighting the growing risks faced by frontline sellers handling telecommunications transactions.

The sessions were conducted under the company’s CX Caravan program, which brought scam awareness activities directly to load retailers who regularly assist customers with SIM-related transactions, account inquiries, payments, and mobile load purchases.

According to Smart, fraudsters increasingly target retailers through social engineering tactics, including attempts to obtain sensitive information or circumvent security measures by exploiting trust and creating a sense of urgency.

The training focused on common scam schemes such as one-time password (OTP) phishing, fake proof-of-payment transactions, identity misuse, and other fraudulent activities. Participants were taught how to identify warning signs, follow verification procedures, and avoid actions that could compromise customer security.

“Madalas kaming target ng scam dahil sa dami ng transaksyon na hinahawakan namin araw-araw. Malaking tulong na dinadala mismo sa amin ang ganitong impormasyon dahil hindi naman kami laging may oras para mag-scroll sa Facebook o magbasa online,” said Nelson, a Smart retailer from Cavite.

(“We are often targeted by scammers because of the volume of transactions we handle every day. It is a big help when information like this is brought directly to us, as we do not always have the time to scroll through Facebook or read updates online.”)

The CX Caravan also provided after-sales support services, allowing retailers to seek assistance, raise concerns, and access Smart services during the sessions.

Smart said the caravan has previously conducted similar engagements for other sectors, including medical professionals, retirees, and teachers, as part of wider efforts to promote cybersecurity awareness and customer education.
