COMMUNITY | PLDT Enterprise brings digital tools to Iloilo SMEs
More than 100 representatives from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Iloilo City attended a technology-focused forum aimed at helping local businesses strengthen operations and adapt to changing digital demands.
The SME Day Iloilo event, organized by PLDT Enterprise, featured sessions on 5G, resilient connectivity, data centers, cybersecurity and digital applications for businesses. Speakers from PLDT Enterprise, ePLDT, VITRO Inc. and Cisco Meraki discussed technologies that can help SMEs improve business continuity, operations and customer reach.
Atty. Fydah Marie Sabandoh Del Rosario, head of the Data Assessment and System Management Office of the Iloilo City Government, said SMEs play an important role in the city’s economic development through job creation and support for local communities.
“Our local businesses are an important part of Iloilo City’s progress,” Del Rosario said. “As Iloilo continues to grow as a center for business and innovation, we want our entrepreneurs to be ready to take advantage of new opportunities, leveraging technology as an essential part of doing business.”
John Eric S. Alviz, vice president and head of Growth Marketing, Digital, and Trade at PLDT Enterprise, said the company aims to provide SMEs with technology and digital solutions suited to their needs.
“At PLDT Group, our priority is to see to it that we are able to help each and every SME grow, and that we can provide for whatever they need, whether it’s connectivity, technology, platforms, or solutions,” Alviz said.
He added that SMEs play a significant role in the country’s development, citing PLDT Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan’s view that “there may be small businesses, but there are no small businessmen.”
Atty. Fritzie Gayle Diez-Treñas, director for finance, administration and corporate affairs at JD Bakery Café, shared the company’s experience in using digital technology to improve its operations.
“I encourage every entrepreneur to see digital transformation not as a disruption, but as an opportunity—an opportunity to become more efficient, make better decisions, and build businesses that are stronger, more resilient, and ready for the future,” Diez-Treñas said.
“Because in today’s world, technology is no longer just supporting business; it is very much about helping shape the future,” she added.
Diez-Treñas said the company’s willingness to adapt has allowed it to adopt new technologies while maintaining its focus on its customers.
“While our products have evolved and our footprint has expanded, one thing has remained constant—our willingness to adapt,” she said. “That willingness has allowed us to embrace new technologies while staying true to our purpose of serving good food every day for everyday people.”
The event also highlighted the role of technology in helping SMEs respond to evolving business requirements and identify new opportunities.
PLDT Enterprise said its SME Day initiative has been held in different parts of the country to connect businesses with technology and knowledge that can support their growth and resilience.
