GADGETS | LG unveils AI Home features at IFA 2026

LG Electronics is expanding its AI-powered home ecosystem with a new text-based AI agent and broader energy and device management capabilities at IFA 2026 in Berlin.

The company unveiled ThinQ Claw, a text-chat-based AI agent designed to understand user intent and context and coordinate connected devices and services. LG said the system can use information about users’ schedules, routines, home environment and appliance use to recommend or help initiate actions.

ThinQ Claw can, for example, coordinate cooking appliances when users are preparing for guests, monitor indoor air quality and temperature before they arrive home, and suggest activities based on their preferences. It can also work with calendars and other connected services through a natural-language chat interface.

The system is designed to remember users’ preferences over time, allowing it to provide more personalized assistance without requiring users to create complex automation rules, according to LG. ThinQ Claw is being demonstrated in the company’s AI Home Zone at IFA 2026.

LG’s expanded AI Home ecosystem also uses Homey, a smart home platform developed by Athom, which LG acquired in 2024. Homey allows users to manage connected products from different manufacturers and service providers through a single platform.

At IFA, LG is demonstrating Home Energy Management System (HEMS) capabilities that connect smart meters, solar panels, home batteries, electric vehicle chargers and LG appliances. The system can coordinate energy generation, storage and consumption in real time and optimize usage based on energy prices where supported.

The company is also introducing LG ThinQ Pro to Europe at IFA 2026. Designed for multifamily residential and commercial environments, the platform is intended to manage connected devices and facilities in shared and professional spaces.

LG said its Shield security framework is applied across the AI Home ecosystem to protect connected appliances, services and customer data.

“ThinQ Claw marks the next step in LG AI Home, illustrating how AI can understand customer intent and life context to support a more personalized and streamlined daily experience,” said Baek Seung-tae, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company.

“LG will continue advancing AI Home through innovations that are increasingly intuitive and responsive to customers’ needs,” he added.

The company said its AI Home strategy is aimed at moving beyond individual smart appliances toward an interconnected environment in which AI coordinates devices, services and household energy use based on users’ needs and circumstances.
