GADGETS | LG, Apple develop seven smart home accessories

LG Electronics and Apple have jointly developed seven smart home accessories for the Apple Home ecosystem, including security cameras, a video doorbell, a smart lock, a thermostat and a temperature sensor, with launches planned in North America and the United Kingdom starting in December.

Announced Oct. 15, 2026, the products were designed to work with Apple Home and LG ThinQ applications, allowing users to control compatible devices and coordinate household routines through Apple’s Home app or Siri.

The lineup includes the LG Indoor Cam Plug-In, LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In, LG Floodlight Cam, LG Video Doorbell Wired, LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, LG Smart Thermostat and LG Temperature Sensor.

LG said the indoor and outdoor cameras offer video resolution of up to 2.5K, color night vision and detection of people, pets, vehicles and movement. Users can block selected areas from being viewed or recorded, while built-in local storage provides control over recorded footage.

The indoor camera has a 160-degree field of view and a privacy tilt mechanism. The outdoor model is designed for exterior monitoring, while the floodlight camera combines surveillance with two adaptive floodlights that illuminate the area when activity is detected.

The wired video doorbell uses a dual-camera system, combining a 2.5K front camera with a Full HD bottom camera to capture visitors, packages and areas around an entrance. It also supports two-way communication and can identify people, vehicles, pets and packages.

The smart deadbolt supports hands-free unlocking with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch using Apple Home Key and ultra-wideband technology. Other unlocking options include near-field communication, a personal identification number and a physical key. Door-status sensing and app notifications provide additional monitoring.

The smart thermostat adjusts heating and cooling based on whether users are heading home, away or sleeping. When paired with optional temperature sensors in other rooms, it can monitor temperature and humidity across multiple spaces. The system uses Matter over Thread for low-power connectivity.

“Creating a truly connected home requires products that work seamlessly together,” said Kihyun Jung, head of the Platform Business Center at LG Home Appliance Solution Co.

Apple Vice President of Hardware Engineering Matthew Costello said the collaboration combines the companies’ hardware, software and home technology expertise to simplify setup and control while protecting user privacy.

LG said the accessories were co-developed from the early product-planning stage, covering hardware, software and user experience rather than relying solely on compatibility between devices.

The company said accessories in Apple Home use end-to-end encryption for camera footage and personal data, which it said are not accessible to LG or Apple.

The products will begin launching in the United States and Canada in December, with some accessories scheduled for early 2027. Indoor and outdoor cameras and the wired video doorbell are also scheduled to become available in the United Kingdom in December. Availability may vary by market.

The products require an Apple home hub, such as a HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K or Apple HomeView, as well as a Wi-Fi connection. Features and compatibility may vary by model and region.
