Xinyx Design holds 1st Nationwide Sandbox Competition for microelectronics students.

Xinyx Design, in an effort to engage and spotlight the bright young minds of the 21st century, organized “Xinyx Unlocked 2023,” a nationwide sandbox competition for microelectronics engineering students. The competition aims to emphasize the significant role of IC (Integrated Circuit) design in the Philippines and promote it as an innovative and fast-growing career path.

Key Highlights:

Competition Purpose: Xinyx Unlocked 2023 aims to promote IC Design as a promising and innovative career path for the next generation of graduates. The goal is to elevate the field of engineering, nurture design thinking, and enable Filipino engineers to compete globally.

Competition Winners:

Grand Prize: First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities [FAITH]

Contest Entry: “GESTULEARN: HAND TRACKING AND GESTURE RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY FOR ASSISTIVE TEACHING IN SPECIAL EDUCATION”

Prizes: The winning teams were awarded cash prizes – Grand Prize (P70,000), 1st Runner-Up (P20,000), and 2nd Runner-Up (P10,000). The grand prize-winning team also received a monthly stipend of P10,000 for two academic years.

Competition Theme: Launched with the theme “From Problems to Possibilities: Building Tomorrow’s Cities Today,” the competition underscores the need for inventive solutions in urban development anchored on microelectronics.

Industry Significance: The competition aligns with the growing importance of the integrated circuits market, which is projected to reach US$5.35 billion in 2023. However, there is a projected shortfall of skilled professionals in the semiconductor industry, emphasizing the need for talent development.

Entries Received: A total of 58 entries were received from state colleges and universities nationwide.
