Cignal has launched a new streaming aggregator app called Cignal Super, signaling a major step in its transformation from a traditional pay-TV provider into a full-fledged digital multimedia company.

Developed in partnership with India’s Tata Play, the app aims to give Filipinos convenient access to a wide array of entertainment, news, and sports content through a single mobile platform. Cignal Super is designed to meet the evolving needs of more than 70 million Filipinos who consume media on their smartphones.

The move builds on a series of digital initiatives Cignal has rolled out since its founding in 2009. Initially known for its direct-to-home satellite pay-TV service, the company expanded into IPTV through a partnership with PLDT and later entered the over-the-top (OTT) streaming space with Cignal Play in 2019. Originally tied to its cable subscription service, Cignal Play was relaunched in 2023 as a standalone app.

That same year, the company introduced Pilipinas Live, an OTT platform focused on sports content. The app offers live games, highlights, news, and user-generated content, aiming to serve the country’s growing base of sports fans.

In 2024, Cignal followed with Cignal Play TV, which allows viewers to stream linear TV channels through an Android box without the need for satellite dishes or set-top boxes.

Cignal now counts over 1.4 million subscribers across Pilipinas Live and Cignal Play.

“Cignal is ready to lead the way, wherever the market goes,” said Jane Jimenez-Basas, president and chief executive of MediaQuest and Cignal. “Cignal Super is the latest digital innovation from Cignal, and there will be more exciting things to come. By continuously adapting our platforms and business models to meet people’s needs, we provide the widest selection of news, sports, entertainment, live sporting events, and interactive experiences to every Filipino, wherever they are.”

Cignal’s pivot reflects the broader shift in media consumption habits in the Philippines, where traditional television has given way to mobile and on-demand content. With Cignal Super, the company positions itself at the forefront of the country’s digital streaming landscape.
