TELECOM | Smart boosts LTE in Batanes, offers free promo
The move is part of the PLDT subsidiary’s efforts to support the Philippine government’s push for digitalization and inclusive connectivity.

Smart Communications Inc. has strengthened its LTE coverage in Batanes, aiming to improve mobile connectivity in one of the country’s most remote provinces.
The move is part of the PLDT subsidiary’s efforts to support the Philippine government’s push for digitalization and inclusive connectivity. Smart’s upgraded network infrastructure now enables better voice, text, and data services in the northernmost province, where geography and weather conditions have long posed challenges to telco infrastructure.
“Our continued investments in Batanes reflect Smart’s deep commitment to nation-building,” said Smart Chief Operating Officer Anastacio R. Martirez. “We are proud to support the government’s digital inclusion agenda by delivering reliable, value-for-money services tailored to the needs of our customers nationwide.”
To mark the improved service and in celebration of National ICT Month in June, Smart has rolled out a free promotional offer exclusively for Batanes. Subscribers on both Smart and TNT can access 2.5GB of data for three days, plus 25 minutes of all-net calls and 25 all-net SMS — a gesture tied to the 25th anniversary of TNT and Smart’s 34th year.
The initiative comes as Batanes played host to key events during National Information and Communications Technology Month, led by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The campaign highlights efforts to expand digital services to remote and underserved communities.
Smart’s expanded presence in Batanes is supported by PLDT’s fiber backbone, which powers its wireless services across the Philippines. By partnering with national and local governments, Smart says it remains committed to enabling digital access, education, and economic inclusion throughout the archipelago.
