A new affordable 5G smartphone with built-in AI features and extended software support is set to arrive in the Philippine market, alongside an upcoming privacy technology designed to protect users from shoulder surfing in public spaces.

The device, part of the Galaxy A series, combines 5G connectivity, a large-capacity battery, a high-refresh-rate display and entry-level AI tools aimed at everyday productivity, content consumption and social media use. At the same time, its maker is preparing to roll out a new “pixel-level” privacy layer that limits what others can see on a user’s screen when the phone is used in crowded environments.

The handset was announced in late January and is positioned for users who want long battery life, smoother scrolling and basic AI assistance without moving into flagship pricing. The privacy feature, meanwhile, is expected to arrive on Galaxy devices in a future software update.

Affordable 5G with AI features

Samsung Electronics said the new Galaxy A07 5G is designed to balance performance, durability and long-term software support in the lower midrange segment.

The phone runs on a 6-nanometer processor and supports 5G connectivity, with a focus on everyday multitasking such as streaming, messaging and social media use. It comes with a 6.7-inch edge-to-edge display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, aimed at smoother scrolling and transitions, and a High Brightness Mode rated at up to 800 nits for outdoor visibility.

Battery life is a key selling point. The device is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery, which the company says is the largest capacity currently offered in its A series lineup. The battery is intended to support extended video playback and all-day use without frequent recharging.

On the camera side, the Galaxy A07 5G features a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor, paired with an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. The imaging system is positioned for casual photography and social media sharing, with software-based processing to balance light and shadow.

Durability and long-term updates

The phone is rated IP54 for dust and water resistance, providing basic protection against splashes and everyday exposure. It also uses a glass fiber–reinforced polymer back panel, intended to improve scratch resistance while keeping the device lightweight.

At 8.2 mm thick and weighing 199 grams, the phone is positioned as relatively slim for its battery size.

Software support is another focus. The Galaxy A07 5G will receive up to six generations of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates, a longer support window than is typical in the budget and entry-level Android segment. The device ships with One UI 8.0, which includes additional personalization and usability features layered on top of Android.

Security features include Samsung Knox Vault, which uses dedicated hardware to isolate and protect sensitive data such as PINs, passwords and biometric information.

Built-in AI tools

The device integrates entry-level AI features that are becoming standard across newer Android phones. These include Google Gemini, which can be activated via the side key to assist with tasks across native and third-party apps, and Circle to Search, which allows users to search for information by circling images, text or objects directly on the screen.

Gemini Live support allows voice-based interaction for queries and basic assistance, positioning the phone as an accessible entry point for users experimenting with AI-powered smartphone features.

Pricing and availability

In the Philippines, the Galaxy A07 5G is priced at P8,290 for the 64GB variant and P9,990 for the 128GB variant. It is available in Black and Light Violet color options through official online and retail channels.

A new layer of screen privacy

Alongside the device launch, Samsung also previewed an upcoming privacy feature designed to address a common real-world problem: people viewing sensitive information over a user’s shoulder in public spaces.

The company said it will soon introduce a customizable privacy layer that limits on-screen visibility when users are checking messages, entering passwords or viewing sensitive notifications in places such as public transport, elevators or queues.

Unlike a single, always-on privacy filter, the new system allows users to selectively apply protection to specific apps, screens or actions, such as typing passwords or viewing notifications. Users will also be able to adjust visibility levels or disable the feature entirely, depending on their preferences.

Samsung said the feature has been in development for more than five years and combines hardware and software tuning to provide privacy without significantly degrading the viewing experience for the user.

Privacy built on security

The upcoming privacy layer builds on Samsung’s existing security framework, which includes Knox Vault and Knox Matrix. While security focuses on protecting data from digital threats, the new feature addresses physical privacy by reducing the risk of visual data exposure.

The company described it as “privacy you can see and security you can feel,” positioning it as an additional safeguard for increasingly personal smartphone use in public environments.

No specific rollout timeline or list of supported devices has been announced, but the feature is expected to arrive on Galaxy devices through future software updates.
