Amazon plans to invest more than $33 billion in cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand by 2039, with the investments expected to contribute over $64 billion to the four countries’ combined gross domestic product and support more than 56,300 jobs annually.

The announcement comes as Southeast Asia continues to expand its digital economy, which is projected to reach $560 billion by 2030. Amazon said the investments will support the region’s growing demand for cloud and AI technologies while strengthening local digital infrastructure.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) currently operates cloud regions in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The company’s presence in Southeast Asia began with the launch of the AWS Singapore Region in 2010, followed by continued expansion across the region.

Amazon said it invested more than $3 billion in Southeast Asia in 2025, including spending on infrastructure and employee compensation across its AWS, retail, devices and entertainment businesses. The company employs more than 3,000 people in the region and supports an additional workforce of more than 2,500.

The company also highlighted its workforce development efforts, saying it has trained more than 2.7 million people in Southeast Asia in cloud-related skills since 2017. Amazon is working with governments, educational institutions and industry partners to expand training programs in AI, cloud computing and data engineering.

Several organizations in the region are already using AWS-based AI services. These include Malaysia-based stock image platform 123RF, Union Bank of the Philippines, Thailand property developer Sansiri and Singapore government technology agency GovTech.

Amazon is also pursuing connectivity initiatives aimed at underserved communities. The company said low-Earth-orbit satellite technology could help address internet access challenges affecting millions of people in rural and remote parts of Southeast Asia.

In addition to infrastructure investments, Amazon said it is supporting Southeast Asian businesses through its global e-commerce platform and investing in local entertainment content through Prime Video productions in the region, including projects in the Philippines.

The company said its sustainability initiatives in Southeast Asia include water replenishment projects, the use of reclaimed water in data centers and renewable energy investments in Singapore and Indonesia.
