Boomi is expanding its enterprise AI platform with tools designed to help organizations govern AI agents, control costs and connect AI systems to business applications as enterprises move from AI experimentation toward production use.

The data activation company announced the updates Sept. 2, including its Agent Control Plane, and discussed the platform’s broader direction during a regional media event at the Boomi World Forum in Singapore on Sept. 10. The company is positioning the control plane as a vendor- and model-neutral layer between AI agents and the transactional systems where business data and processes reside.

David Irecki, chief technology officer for Asia Pacific and Japan at Boomi, said enterprises are increasingly shifting their focus from AI experimentation to measurable business results.

“The days of pilots are gone,” Irecki said during his keynote. He said organizations are now determining which AI applications make sense for their businesses, where they should be deployed and how they can generate outcomes, including new revenue streams and routes to market.

Boomi’s Agent Control Plane is designed to provide a central control point for AI agents, models and tools across different vendors and deployment environments. The company said it can connect agents to enterprise systems, govern their actions and ground their responses in verified business data.

The platform is intended to address growing concerns over uncontrolled AI activity, including security exposure, compliance risks, intellectual property leakage and unpredictable token costs. Boomi cited a Gartner prediction that 40% of enterprises will demote or decommission autonomous AI agents by 2027 because of governance gaps identified after production incidents.

Irecki said the emphasis on governance is similar to the evolution of API management, where organizations eventually introduced gateways and policies to control access.

“The AI gateway, the more and more you embark on this AI space, it’s going to become more and more important to you as an organization,” Irecki said.

The Boomi AI Gateway is intended to provide observability, governance and scale. It can provide a consolidated audit trail for models, agents and MCP servers, apply identity and policy controls to calls, and support model routing and rate limiting.

Boomi said the gateway will also help organizations manage AI spending by controlling token consumption and routing requests to appropriate models. This can include frontier models, open-weight models and smaller language models running in private environments.

Boomi cited FinOps Foundation research showing that 98% of respondents in its 2026 State of FinOps survey were managing AI spending, compared with 31% two years earlier.

Boomi Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Lucas said cost accountability is becoming part of the AI governance discussion.

“Finance has arrived in the middle of every AI conversation,” Lucas said in the company’s announcement. “Control is not the brake on enterprise AI. It is what makes scale possible.”

The platform is also being developed around hybrid deployment, allowing organizations to determine where AI agents and models operate.

Irecki said enterprises may want frontier models in the public cloud while keeping sensitive workloads, open-weight models or small language models inside private or on-premises environments.

“You’re going to need to be able to run AI where you see fit,” Irecki said, citing both data and digital sovereignty as factors in deployment decisions.

Boomi is introducing Agent Runtime Clouds for markets including Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom, with Germany planned. The company said its hybrid runtime architecture can support public cloud, private environments and on-premises deployments.

The approach also supports bring-your-own-model deployments. Boomi said its runtime will support commercial large language models, open-weight models and private model instances, while fine-tuned small language models are planned.

Irecki argued that enterprises’ proprietary business context, rather than generic internet data, will increasingly become a differentiator as AI adoption expands.

“That context is your gold,” he said, referring to business-specific information that can be used with internally controlled models and systems.

Boomi Connect is another component of the platform, providing governed connectivity between AI agents and backend systems.

The company said Boomi Connect exposes enterprise systems as governed Model Context Protocol servers and tools. It includes more than 1,000 pre-built MCP servers and tools, allowing agents to access systems without requiring organizations to build and maintain individual custom connectors.

Irecki described how users could interact with AI services such as Claude or ChatGPT while access to backend information is controlled according to their identity and permissions.

Boomi is also developing Boomi Connect Enterprise following its acquisition of Lunar.dev. The company said the expanded offering will provide deeper visibility into which backend resources are being accessed, who is accessing them and how frequently.

The company’s approach is not limited to AI-built systems. Existing Boomi integrations can be exposed to agents as governed tools, while non-Boomi systems can be accessed through the platform’s MCP-enabled tools.

Boomi is also emphasizing data context as a prerequisite for useful AI.

Irecki said the company’s DataHub, MetaHub and Knowledge Hub capabilities are intended to provide different forms of business context. DataHub handles data synchronization, MetaHub provides business definitions through a glossary, and Knowledge Hub is designed to make unstructured information available to AI agents through retrieval-augmented generation.

This is intended to reduce the gap between AI pilots built around carefully selected datasets and enterprise deployments that must work across larger and more complicated data environments.

Boomi’s announcement similarly describes Agent Context as a way to ground AI reasoning in expert-endorsed business definitions and end-to-end data lineage.

Irecki said enterprises should work backward from the business problem rather than starting with an AI capability.

The question, he said, should be what the organization is trying to achieve, what AI capabilities are required, which processes should remain deterministic, and what data those systems need to access.

Boomi Orchestrate is being developed to let business and IT teams build multi-system workflows through a conversational interface.

The company said Orchestrate presents solutions through both business and technical views, allowing teams to align on the logic and implementation before a workflow is deployed. The capability is in early access, with general availability planned later in the year.

Boomi Companion is also being positioned as a development accelerator. Irecki described its ability to work through conversational interfaces such as Claude Code to create integrations and other Boomi capabilities based on natural-language instructions.

The company is also expanding its governance tools, including the Agent Control Tower, MCP Registry and Agent Trust Scorecard. Irecki said the Agent Control Tower currently supports about 30 model providers, giving organizations a single view across models and agents from different vendors.

Boomi said more than 30,000 customers use its platform, which processes more than 200 billion messages per quarter. Irecki additionally said nearly 25% of Fortune 500 companies use Boomi and that the company is targeting an increase from four-nines to five-nines of uptime.

For Boomi, the broader strategy is to retain integration, data management and API management as the foundation while adding AI capabilities on top.

“The enterprise is becoming headless,” Irecki said, describing a model in which AI interfaces directly with systems of record rather than relying on traditional application interfaces. In that environment, he said, connectivity becomes the backbone that allows AI agents to work with enterprise systems.

Boomi said additional capabilities are planned, including prompt routing and an Autopilot feature designed to help monitor Boomi operations and potentially automate remediation based on system logs.
