COMMUNITY | PLDT supports PPCRV command center for BARMM elections
The command center in Makati City was launched as the site of PPCRV’s unofficial parallel count of the elections, bringing together representatives from PPCRV, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the AMA Group of Companies and PLDT.
PLDT Inc. has provided connectivity support for the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV)-AMA Command Center during the first regular Parliamentary Elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The command center in Makati City was launched as the site of PPCRV’s unofficial parallel count of the elections, bringing together representatives from PPCRV, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the AMA Group of Companies and PLDT.
PLDT Chief Operating Officer Menardo G. Jimenez Jr. said the company’s role was to provide reliable connectivity for volunteers and other election stakeholders working at the command center.
“Elections are more transparent when connectivity is secure and reliable. Our part in this partnership with PPCRV is to make sure their connectivity is robust, resilient, reliable, and responsive. This helps volunteers and election stakeholders carry out their work with confidence,” Jimenez said.
Jimenez added that PLDT would support initiatives promoting civic participation, including potential voter education programs aimed at encouraging Filipinos, particularly young people, to become more engaged in the electoral process.
PLDT’s support for the command center is part of the company’s broader involvement in the BARMM elections. The company earlier announced that its VITRO data centers would house critical servers that would receive data transmitted directly from automated counting machines used in the elections.
PLDT’s wireless arm Smart Communications Inc. is also providing prepaid SIM cards with load for election coordination and monitoring activities.
The initiatives build on PLDT’s support for election modernization efforts through its network, connectivity services and data center capabilities. The company said these resources are intended to provide institutions with digital tools for critical public functions.
