Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has expanded its Ryzen AI 400 Series processor lineup, introducing new chips designed to power the next generation of artificial intelligence-enabled personal computers for both consumers and businesses.

The announcement at the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, broadens AMD’s AI PC portfolio with additional processors that integrate neural processing units (NPUs) for on-device AI workloads. The move comes as PC manufacturers accelerate development of laptops and desktops capable of running AI features locally rather than relying solely on cloud computing.

The Ryzen AI 400 Series processors combine CPU, GPU and NPU components to support applications such as AI-assisted productivity, content creation and real-time collaboration tools. By integrating AI acceleration directly into the processor architecture, AMD aims to enable faster AI processing while improving power efficiency for mobile systems.

According to AMD, the expanded lineup is intended to give PC makers more flexibility in designing AI-capable systems across different price points and performance tiers. The processors are designed for use in both consumer laptops and enterprise devices that require local AI processing for productivity, security and collaboration workloads.

AI PCs are emerging as a major category in the personal computing market as software developers incorporate AI features into operating systems and applications. These capabilities include AI-powered video conferencing enhancements, automated content generation, image editing tools and workflow automation.

By performing AI tasks locally on the device, NPUs can reduce latency and improve privacy compared with cloud-based processing. This approach also lowers bandwidth requirements, making AI features more responsive even in environments with limited internet connectivity.

AMD said the Ryzen AI 400 Series processors are designed to support the growing ecosystem of AI-enabled applications being developed for Windows-based PCs. The chips are expected to appear in upcoming laptops from major PC manufacturers targeting both commercial and consumer segments.

The expansion of the Ryzen AI 400 Series lineup reflects the broader industry push toward AI PCs, with chipmakers integrating specialized AI accelerators directly into client processors. As software vendors add more AI-driven tools to productivity and creative applications, PC hardware is evolving to handle these workloads locally.
