PLDT Inc. has expanded its “Bayanihan” campaign against cable theft to Malolos, Bulacan and Alabang, Muntinlupa City, as part of efforts to protect telecommunications infrastructure.

The initiative, led by PLDT’s Asset Protection and Security Risk Governance Group, involves coordination with local government units, barangay officials and community members to address rising incidents of cable cutting and theft.

PLDT recently conducted security dialogues in Barangay Longos in Malolos and Barangay Alabang, bringing together local leaders, security personnel and residents to strengthen monitoring and reporting of incidents.

Leo A. Gonzales, vice president and head of property, facilities and asset resiliency management at PLDT, said the program relies on cooperation with communities. “Protecting our network requires close coordination not just within PLDT, but with local government units and the communities we serve,” he said.

In Malolos, PLDT representatives met with barangay officials to discuss shared responsibility in safeguarding telecom assets and promote cyber safety awareness. In Alabang, discussions focused on improving coordination between barangay authorities and PLDT teams to respond to fiber cuts and theft incidents.

PLDT encouraged residents to report incidents through its hotlines for security concerns and service issues.

The company said it has recorded arrests and recovered stolen network materials through the campaign. In the second half of 2025, recovered items were valued at about P18 million, based on internal reports.

Col. Wilfredo Gonio (Ret.), head of PLDT and Smart’s security central command and administration center, said coordination with local authorities helps speed up response and prevent service disruptions. “With local authorities as our allies, we are able to respond faster and prevent bigger disruptions, keeping our customers connected,” he said.

PLDT said the campaign forms part of broader efforts to maintain network reliability and support digital services nationwide.
