Global fintech platform Pine Labs is officially ramping up its push into the Philippine market through a new partnership with GCash, specifically via GCash for Business, in a move aimed at accelerating digital payment adoption among Filipino MSMEs.

The collaboration brings Pine Labs’ point-of-sale software, installment payment technology and merchant-focused fintech infrastructure into GCash’s growing merchant ecosystem. The integration will allow businesses to accept both QR and card payments while also unlocking installment plans, cashback offers, rewards and loyalty features through a unified payment flow.

For the Philippine fintech landscape, this is less about “another payments partnership” and more about infrastructure consolidation. The local MSME market has already embraced QR-based cashless payments aggressively over the past few years, but fragmented systems remain one of the biggest pain points for merchants. Pine Labs and GCash appear to be positioning this partnership as a way to collapse multiple payment functions into a more streamlined retail stack.

GCash for Business currently offers merchant-focused tools such as PocketPay, which transforms smartphones into portable POS terminals, and SoundPay, an audio-based payment confirmation system designed for faster transaction verification in busy retail environments. Newer hardware offerings including SoundPay Plus and EasyPOS are also part of the expansion strategy.

According to Paul Albano, the partnership is designed to help Filipino entrepreneurs access more flexible payment systems while improving day-to-day operations for small businesses.

Meanwhile, Dheeraj Chowdhry said Pine Labs’ software integrations and rapid deployment systems are expected to improve merchant onboarding and retention across the region.

The timing is notable. While GCash already dominates the Philippine e-wallet space, the broader fintech war is shifting toward merchant infrastructure, embedded financial services and omnichannel payment systems. Pine Labs entering through GCash for Business gives the company immediate access to one of the country’s largest merchant ecosystems without needing to build local consumer traction from scratch.

Pine Labs also confirmed that it already maintains a locally incorporated Philippine entity and currently supports several financial institutions and retail brands in the country, including powering one of the largest gift card programs for SM Retail.

The partnership reinforces how the next phase of fintech competition in Southeast Asia is no longer just about digital wallets. It is increasingly about who controls the merchant rails behind them.
