ESPORTS | Smart Omega strengthens grassroots esports community
Smart Omega said the program has helped amateur teams gain exposure, with some participants eventually advancing to the MLBB Development League Philippines (MDL PH), a pathway to the professional esports scene.

Smart Omega is expanding its grassroots esports initiatives as it continues to build a stronger fan and player community around Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) in the Philippines.
The Smart Communications-backed esports team said its community-driven programs aim to bring esports closer to local fans through tournaments, watch parties and online engagement activities.
One of its key initiatives is “Community Wars,” a post-MPL Philippines competition platform for aspiring MLBB players. Smart Omega said the program has helped amateur teams gain exposure, with some participants eventually advancing to the MLBB Development League Philippines (MDL PH), a pathway to the professional esports scene.
The organization is also holding “Community Watch Parties” in several Quezon City districts, allowing fans to gather locally to watch Smart Omega matches together.
“Sobrang halaga ng cheers lalo na pag nasa venue, at kahit wala sa venue, nakaka-boost ng confidence, parang gusto ko pa lalo itodo,” said Smart Omega jungler Dean “Raizen” Sumagui.
Smart Omega gold laner Kenneth “Netskie” Barro thanked supporters for staying with the team through difficult seasons.
“Hindi kami sumusuko. Hintayin n’yo lang, malay ninyo, dumating yung panahon na mapapasaamin naman momentum ng MPL,” Barro said.
The team has also introduced fan engagement activities such as “Quest for the Vest,” where supporters collect badges and gain access to exclusive experiences, and “Fansiklaban,” an MLBB competition featuring community members representing Smart Omega.
Smart co-officer-in-charge Lloyd Manaloto said the company remains committed to supporting local esports development through Smart Omega and TNT.
“Our continued support for Smart Omega and its community is a commitment to our fans and to the sustained growth of the esports ecosystem in the Philippines,” Manaloto said.
Smart recently launched updated postpaid plans that include gaming-focused mobile data bundles for titles such as MLBB. The company also cited network recognitions from Ookla for mobile video experience and latency performance.
Smart Omega said its fan base has grown steadily over the years, from smaller community gatherings to larger esports venue audiences.
