FINTECH | Visa, Maya enable wallet cards on Google Pay
Google Pay transactions are enabled by Visa’s tokenization technology, which replaces actual card numbers with unique digital tokens.
Visa and Maya have enabled Maya Visa wallet cards for Google Wallet and Google Pay, allowing cardholders to use physical and virtual wallet cards for digital payments.
The rollout extends Google Pay availability to all Maya Visa cards, including credit and wallet cards, according to the companies.
Maya previously enabled Google Wallet and Google Pay for its credit cardholders in November 2025. The latest rollout allows wallet cardholders to use Google Pay at shops, public transport and tourist destinations.
Google Pay transactions are enabled by Visa’s tokenization technology, which replaces actual card numbers with unique digital tokens. The technology is designed to prevent cardholders’ account information from being shared with merchants or stored on devices.
“The Philippines is undergoing a rapid shift to contactless, digital payments, and Visa and Maya are playing a crucial role in enabling this transformation,” Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro said.
“With every contactless transaction, we provide speed, convenience, and security for Filipino consumers, reinforcing adoption and trust in new payment technologies. This also aligns closely with the government’s vision to become a cash-lite economy,” he said.
Maya Group President and Maya Bank Co-Founder Shailesh Baidwan said the rollout would give customers more options for managing money and making everyday purchases.
“Enabling Google Pay for Maya Visa wallet cards extends the simplicity and flexibility our users expect, allowing them to make secure contactless payments using the mobile phones and devices they already use every day,” Baidwan said.
The companies also cited Visa research showing that more than 71 percent of consumers in Asia Pacific prefer using mobile or smart devices for in-store or online payments.
Visa research also found that 97 percent of travelers in the region want to use credit, debit or prepaid cards when traveling, while 17 percent intend to bring cash.
