MOBILITY | Tamaraw drives Toyota PH sustainability efforts
TMP invested P5.5 billion in vehicle production, parts localization and conversion capabilities for the Tamaraw.
Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) cited the Next Generation Tamaraw as one of the key drivers of its corporate sustainability efforts in 2025, pointing to its contribution to local manufacturing, employment, small business growth and mobility.
In its 2026 Sustainability Report, TMP said the Tamaraw captured 36% of the pure commercial vehicle market during its first full year in the Philippines and secured the No. 1 position in the light commercial vehicle segment.
TMP invested P5.5 billion in vehicle production, parts localization and conversion capabilities for the Tamaraw. The investment created opportunities for local vehicle designers, engineers, parts suppliers, external body builders and niche conversion businesses, according to the company.
TMP President Masando Hashimoto said the Tamaraw contributes to the company’s efforts to create value for stakeholders and support local manufacturing.
“The Tamaraw is one of our major means in creating and adding new value for both our internal and external stakeholders, from the upstream to downstream,” Hashimoto said.
In 2025, TMP recorded its highest annual completely knocked-down (CKD) production volume at 63,803 units, driven by production of the Vios, Innova and Tamaraw. The company said cumulative vehicle production exceeded 1.18 million units by the end of 2025.
TMP also reported P17 billion in local procurement from domestic suppliers during the year and distributed P283.83 billion in economic value, including P43.13 billion in taxes and duties.
Toyota Group export suppliers contributed about $1 billion in automotive parts export sales in 2025, equivalent to 27% of the country’s total automotive parts exports, according to TMP.
The Tamaraw’s conversion program also expanded from its initial three body styles to six configurations through TMP’s in-house capabilities, including ambulance, telecommunications van and race vehicle versions. Seven additional body styles are available through external niche converters.
TMP said seven local body builders have been tapped for Tamaraw conversions, including Globalmaxx Manufacturing Corp., Autovention Corp. and Almazora Motors Corp. These conversions include food trucks, patrol vehicles and modern public utility vehicles.
TMP also expanded its electrified vehicle lineup in 2025 with the Toyota ATIV hybrid electric vehicle and Toyota bZ4X battery electric vehicle. The company sold 19,516 electrified vehicles during the year, a 39% increase from 2024.
The company maintained a 100% renewable electricity ratio for its manufacturing operations at its Santa Rosa plant. It also continued programs with suppliers, logistics partners and dealers to reduce emissions across its value chain.
Beyond its operations, TMP continued its All Toyota “Green Wave” Project and its partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources under the Tamaraw Conservation Program. The Green Wave Project aims to plant 1 million trees by 2030, while the conservation program supports patrol, monitoring and conservation activities on Mindoro Island.
