A global verification and anti-fraud firm and a local digital transformation group have formed a partnership to strengthen digital trust, identity systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) governance in the Philippines ahead of its ASEAN chairmanship in 2026.

Sumsub and Go Digital Philippines (GDP) signed a strategic agreement in Manila in April to support the country’s digital economy through secure digital identity, trusted online services, and responsible AI adoption. The collaboration aligns with ongoing efforts by the Department of Information and Communications Technology to build a more secure and inclusive digital ecosystem.

The partnership outlines a roadmap focused on improving identity verification systems, strengthening fraud prevention, and promoting governance frameworks for AI use. It also seeks to position the Philippines as a regional contributor to digital policy and infrastructure development within ASEAN.

Sumsub, a London-headquartered firm founded in 2015, provides identity verification and anti-fraud solutions to more than 4,000 clients globally across fintech, e-commerce, and other digital sectors. Its platform uses AI-driven risk analysis to monitor transactions and prevent fraud, including deepfake-related threats.

Go Digital Philippines, meanwhile, is a multi-sector initiative aimed at accelerating digital transformation and expanding access to digital services nationwide.

Under the agreement, both parties will coordinate with government agencies and industry stakeholders to enhance compliance standards, improve digital identity infrastructure, and promote secure data-sharing practices. The collaboration also includes contributions to ASEAN-level initiatives, particularly on cross-border payments interoperability and digital finance security for micro, small, and medium enterprises.

The partnership comes as the Philippines experiences rapid growth in fintech, digital payments, and e-commerce, alongside rising concerns over fraud and cybersecurity risks. Industry trends show that evolving threats such as AI-driven fraud and deepfakes are increasing pressure on digital platforms to strengthen verification systems and regulatory compliance.

As part of its local expansion, Sumsub said it plans to scale its operations in the Philippines and deepen partnerships with local technology providers and institutions. The company has previously worked with Nexus Technologies to expand access to compliance and verification tools in the country.

The agreement was formally launched during the Sumsub Digital Trust and AI Governance Forum held in Manila on April 14, where representatives from government agencies, including the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, and international partners attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

Officials from both sides said the collaboration aims to support long-term national goals for digital inclusion and economic growth, while contributing to broader ASEAN efforts to establish secure and interoperable digital systems.
