The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has begun using Maya to digitally distribute fuel subsidies to eligible public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators as the government expands digital channels for financial assistance programs amid rising fuel prices.

Under the government’s Fuel Subsidy Program, qualified beneficiaries can receive assistance directly through the Maya app, complementing existing government disbursement channels and reducing dependence on manual and over-the-counter payouts.

The program is part of government efforts to help the transport sector cope with higher fuel costs and market volatility linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Eligible beneficiaries include operators and drivers of public utility jeepneys, UV Express vehicles, taxis, and minibuses. Maya said it has completed the first batch of subsidy disbursements.

The LTFRB said beneficiary validation and identification remain under the supervision of government agencies to help ensure transparency and proper targeting of assistance.

“Digital disbursement helps make the release of assistance more efficient and accessible for our transport sector beneficiaries, while also supporting broader efforts to modernize public service delivery,” said LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II.

Maya said digital disbursements also provide beneficiaries with access to digital financial services, including savings, bill payments, credit, insurance, and cashless transactions.

“Beyond enabling faster and more convenient access to government assistance, digital accounts can also help transport workers participate more fully in the digital economy through tools such as savings, credit and cashless transactions,” said Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Group President and Maya Bank co-founder.

The partnership reflects the government’s increasing use of digital financial platforms to improve the speed and accessibility of aid distribution.

The initiative builds on previous collaborations between Maya and transport agencies, including earlier LTFRB fuel subsidy disbursements during the pandemic. Maya also supports digital payments for the LTFRB’s Franchise Online Application system and the payment of Metro Manila Development Authority traffic violation fees.
