Yokogawa, BuyCo partner on container transport management

Yokogawa Electric Corp. has signed a distribution agreement with France-based software provider BuyCo to offer a container transport management system to companies in the materials industry.

Under the agreement, Yokogawa will distribute BuyCo’s Transportation Management System (TMS), a software-as-a-service platform designed to manage international container shipments. The partnership expands Yokogawa’s supply chain solutions from plant-level operations to logistics connecting multiple facilities.

BuyCo’s platform centralizes container transport data, supports shipment planning and booking, provides real-time visibility of shipping operations and facilitates information sharing among participants. It can also use cargo data to assist in selecting shipping lines and transport routes and provide door-to-door shipment tracking.

The platform is intended for exporters and importers that manage large volumes of containers. BuyCo said more than 12,000 users worldwide currently rely on the system.

The partnership comes as materials companies face increasingly complex global supply chains, higher transportation costs, geopolitical risks and stricter environmental requirements. Companies in sectors such as chemicals also need to manage hazardous materials and different cargo types.

Yokogawa said the agreement is part of its effort to address supply chain challenges beyond individual manufacturing plants through consulting and digital solutions.

Carl Lauron, founder and CEO of BuyCo, said the partnership would connect production operations with international logistics.

“We are delighted to augment the Yokogawa offering, enabling them to close the gap between production and logistics,” Lauron said. “With BuyCo’s container shipping platform, manufacturers can optimize their entire supply chain, including the international transportation aspects.”

“The partnership between Yokogawa and BuyCo enables manufacturers to impact transportation costs, effectiveness and sustainability,” he added.

Naohisa Endo, Yokogawa executive officer and head of its Materials Business Headquarters, said the companies intend to expand the solution beyond container transport management.

“By leveraging BuyCo’s container transport management platform, we will launch initiatives to optimize supply chains for the materials industry,” Endo said. “Building on our strengths in measuring and connecting, we aim to achieve integrated optimization spanning everything from our customers’ production operations to international logistics.”

“Looking ahead, we intend to evolve this into a comprehensive supply chain management solution that integrates demand forecasting, inventory optimization, and more,” he added.

Yokogawa said the platform can help companies reduce logistics costs and inventory levels while improving on-time delivery. It can also provide visibility into potential cargo quality risks and help companies track and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Yokogawa has traditionally focused on measurement, control and information solutions for industries including energy, chemicals, materials, pharmaceuticals and food. The company said it is expanding its supply chain capabilities through digital technologies aimed at optimizing production, assets and logistics.
