COMMUNITY | PLDT Enterprise, partners digitize loans for DepEd teachers
The initiative strengthens China Bank Savings’ existing field-based Automatic Payroll Deduction (APD) lending model by equipping its field personnel with the APD Smart App, Samsung mobile devices and Smart connectivity.
PLDT Enterprise, China Bank Savings and Samsung Electronics Philippines are working together to expand digital loan application services for Department of Education (DepEd) teachers and non-teaching employees through mobile devices and connectivity.
The initiative strengthens China Bank Savings’ existing field-based Automatic Payroll Deduction (APD) lending model by equipping its field personnel with the APD Smart App, Samsung mobile devices and Smart connectivity.
The APD Smart App is China Bank Savings’ internal digital loan origination platform, allowing authorized personnel to facilitate APD loan applications while working in schools, DepEd offices and other field locations across the country.
The companies said the setup is designed to improve the mobility and productivity of APD field teams while expanding the bank’s reach to educators in geographically dispersed and remote locations.
China Bank Savings is the first DepEd-accredited private lending institution to receive DepEd approval for the specific digital APD initiative using the APD Smart App, according to the companies.
“Samsung is pleased to partner with China Bank Savings and PLDT Enterprise for this initiative. By bringing together mobile technology, connectivity, and CBS’ digital platform, this collaboration can help bring banking services closer to educators,” said Roman Han, President of Samsung Electronics Philippines.
Samsung provided the mobile devices for China Bank Savings’ APD field personnel and hosted the contract signing at its Science Hub Tower 4 offices in McKinley Hill.
James Christian Dee, President of China Bank Savings, said the initiative gives the bank’s lending teams greater flexibility to serve customers outside traditional branch settings.
“Serving our customers well means giving our people the ability to respond to them wherever they may be. This mobility initiative gives our lending teams greater flexibility to work in the field while supporting our efforts to make financial services more accessible to DepEd teachers,” Dee said.
The partnership between China Bank Savings and PLDT Enterprise dates to 2007, when the bank used PLDT Enterprise fixed voice and branch connectivity services. The relationship expanded to support the bank’s APDS loans business in 2018, followed by its transition to SD-WAN in 2022 and the addition of wireless services for lending units.
Victor S. Genuino, Head of PLDT Enterprise Key Industries Group and President and CEO of ePLDT and VITRO Inc., said the latest initiative reflects the companies’ efforts to align technology with the way the bank’s lending teams operate.
“By enabling their lending officers to stay connected and productive wherever their work takes them, we are helping CBS build a more agile operating model that supports both business growth and its goal of widening access to financial services,” Genuino said.
The companies said combining the APD Smart App, mobile devices, Smart connectivity and China Bank Savings’ nationwide field force is intended to create a more scalable field-based loan origination model and bring lending services closer to educators.
