BUSINESS TECH | Mimecast adds Singapore data hosting for 8 Asian markets
The service is available to customers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.
Mimecast announced on Oct. 11 that customers in eight Asian markets, including the Philippines, can store and process data in Singapore while using the company’s full cybersecurity and compliance platform hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The service is available to customers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand. Mimecast said the deployment gives organizations a clear option for local data residency without sacrificing platform capabilities or access to new features.
The Singapore deployment uses the same code, underlying infrastructure, monitoring, deployment and security processes as Mimecast’s other operating regions, according to the company. It said customers in the region would receive the same platform capabilities and service standards as customers elsewhere.
Data residency has become a consideration for organizations managing sensitive email, communications and compliance information. Companies increasingly face questions from procurement teams, risk committees and boards about where their data is stored and processed, as well as which jurisdictions govern it.
Mimecast said its Singapore infrastructure is designed to address those concerns for organizations across Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. The company has also established dedicated regional infrastructure in the United Kingdom and Germany, along with independent deployments in Canada, Australia and South Africa.
The company clarified that hosting data in a particular location does not, by itself, satisfy an organization’s regulatory obligations. Instead, Singapore hosting gives customers a defined location for their data while they remain responsible for meeting applicable compliance requirements.
Mimecast developed the deployment in partnership with AWS, which provides the cloud infrastructure for the Singapore-hosted platform.

Mimecast and AWS said their partnership would provide customers across the eight markets with access to the full Mimecast platform hosted in Singapore.
The service is intended for organizations that want greater clarity over data location while retaining access to Mimecast’s security and compliance capabilities, including features involving artificial intelligence.
