TECHSABADO | Protecting Youth in Philippine Cyberspace (October 31, 2026)

In this episode of Tech Sabado, Jing Garcia and Raymond Tribdino dive into the controversy surrounding online child safety and government platform regulation in the Philippines. Joined by cybersecurity veteran Lito Averia (founder of the Philippine Computer Emergency Response Team and board member of the ASEAN-Japan Cyber Security Community Alliance) and data scientist and AI advocate Doc Ligot, the panel analyzes the recent state-enforced restrictions on communication platforms like Discord. They discuss the tension between exercising emergency state powers (parens patriae) and upholding constitutional due process, transparency, and user rights, while also exploring regional digital integration through the upcoming ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) and the vital need to secure critical information infrastructure.
