COMMUNITY | QC emergency responders get mental health support from PLDT, Smart
Participants were introduced to coping mechanisms, stress management techniques, and strategies for maintaining mental and emotional well-being in high-pressure situations.

Emergency responders from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QC DRRMO) and the Quezon City Citizens Services Department (CSD) underwent a stress management and mental health workshop organized by PLDT and Smart Communications in partnership with the Philippine Mental Health Association.
The workshop tackled burnout, secondhand trauma, and the emotional strain experienced by emergency responders. Participants were introduced to coping mechanisms, stress management techniques, and strategies for maintaining mental and emotional well-being in high-pressure situations.
QC DRRMO head Bianca Perez-Diamante said emergency responders regularly face trauma cases, vehicular accidents, rescues, and extreme weather situations that can affect their mental health.
“Our responders are the ones who face emergencies every single day—from vehicular accidents and trauma cases to rescues during extreme weather conditions,” Perez-Diamante said. “This workshop is important because it reminds them that they are human too.”
Acting Chief Administrative Officer Estelita Mañalac of the QC Citizens Service Department said the workshop highlighted the importance of self-care among public servants and first responders.
“One of the most important things I learned is that you have to take care of yourself first before you can truly help others,” Mañalac said.
Jeramen Devisfruto, acting deputy of Team Delta Emergency Medical Services under Operations, said the session provided practical guidance on managing panic, anxiety, and stress while responding to emergencies.
The program also introduced participants to Smart’s retailer initiative, which allows individuals to earn additional income by selling prepaid load and digital services in their communities.
PLDT and Smart said the activity forms part of their #KonektedForResilience program, which focuses on disaster preparedness and community resilience.
