Jardine Schindler Philippines began modernizing 51 elevators and six escalators at RCBC Plaza in Makati City in March 2026, including the installation of a destination control system designed to improve building access and elevator traffic management.

The project covers the vertical transportation systems of the office complex in Makati’s central business district. It also includes Jardine Schindler’s assumption of elevator maintenance at the property.

The modernization will introduce Schindler PORT, a destination control system that integrates building access and navigation. Users can access the system through smartphones, badges or information technology interfaces, while building operators can use it to manage traffic flows and monitor system performance.

Jardine Schindler said the technology is designed to reduce waiting times, improve energy efficiency through intelligent traffic management, and support adaptive maintenance through real-time performance tracking.

The work must be carried out with minimal disruption because RCBC Plaza is a high-occupancy corporate complex. The project also includes an escalator modernization approach designed for existing buildings that remain operational during construction.

Rachel Thu, managing director of Jardine Schindler Philippines, said the company was pleased to work with RCBC Plaza on modernizing the complex, which also serves as a cultural hub in Makati’s business district.

Yeow Seng Teo, group modernization sales director of Jardine Schindler Group, said the project combines destination control technology with modernization and maintenance services to improve building performance and operational efficiency.

Built in 2001, RCBC Plaza houses corporate offices, diplomatic missions, consular offices, business process outsourcing companies and technology firms. The complex introduced an integrated building automation system in 2021 covering security, fire protection and air conditioning.
