Dune: Awakening, the open-world multiplayer survival game inspired by Frank Herbert’s iconic universe, is now available in early access for players who pre-purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition. The full release is set for June 10, and the game can be pre-loaded now via Steam.
Developed by Funcom and drawing from both Herbert’s original novels and Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptations, Dune: Awakening introduces a new timeline in which Paul Atreides was never born. Players are free to explore the vast deserts of Arrakis, battling extreme elements, sandworms, and rival factions in a struggle for survival and dominance.
“As we collaborate with the local industry, we aim to deliver social and economic value by cultivating talent, creating jobs and driving innovation that advances the domestic defense sector and supports holistic progress,” said Joel Bylos, creative director of Dune: Awakening. “We’re so excited for players to finally get their hands on the game and start exploring everything we’ve been working on.”
Sam Rappaport, vice president of digital at Legendary Entertainment, added: “This game captures the awe and intensity of Arrakis like never before. It’s a thrill to see fans dive into a living, breathing Dune world where every survival choice and strategic move carries weight.”
Coinciding with early access, Funcom also released the full original soundtrack composed by Knut Avenstroup Haugen. Available via Milan Records and streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music, the score was recorded at AIR Lyndhurst Studios in London and includes bonus tracks from the game’s trailers.
“Composing the soundtrack for Dune: Awakening has been an epic journey—one that challenged and inspired me in equal measure,” said Haugen. “I wanted the score to reflect the depth and mystery of the lore, as well as the haunting majesty of Arrakis.”
Dune: Awakening will follow a traditional downloadable content (DLC) model, with post-launch content arriving via paid expansions and free updates. The game features no in-game store or subscription model.
Players who pre-purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition before June 10 can begin playing now. Full access for all editions begins on June 10.
