COMMUNITY | Palawan cable project gains Tagbanua backing
The project will add submarine cable routes intended to strengthen the reliability, resiliency, and capacity of PLDT’s network infrastructure in Palawan.

Palawan’s Tagbanua Indigenous Cultural Communities have approved a submarine cable project of PLDT aimed at improving network resiliency and internet connectivity across the province.
The telecommunications company, together with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, signed separate Memoranda of Agreement with the Tagbanua Central ICC in Napsan, Puerto Princesa, and the Tagbanua Calamian ICC in Busuanga for the Palawan Resiliency Submarine Cable Project. A third agreement with the Tagbanua Tandulanen ICC in Sibaltan, El Nido is scheduled in June.
The project will add submarine cable routes intended to strengthen the reliability, resiliency, and capacity of PLDT’s network infrastructure in Palawan.
Arvin L. Siena, PLDT vice president for network design and engineering, said the company aims to work closely with the Tagbanua communities while respecting Indigenous customs, rights, and environmental safeguards during the implementation of the project.
PLDT COO and Network Head Menardo G. Jimenez said the project is part of efforts to improve network redundancy and maintain communications reliability in Palawan, especially during disruptions and emergencies.
Jimenez added that the initiative supports the company’s broader digital inclusion efforts by helping improve connectivity in remote communities across the province.
PLDT said the project forms part of its nationwide network expansion and resiliency initiatives aligned with the government’s digitalization efforts and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on infrastructure and innovation.
