Adaptability has become a critical leadership trait as businesses face rapid technological change, shifting customer expectations and increasing competitive pressure, PLDT Enterprise executive Blums S. Pineda said during a panel discussion at the ACC CXO Forum in Hong Kong.

Pineda, PLDT senior vice president and head of the Enterprise Business Group, joined industry leaders from the telecommunications, technology, digital infrastructure, finance and enterprise sectors at the inaugural forum. The panel, “Decisions Under Pressure: How Leaders are Navigating 2026,” examined how organizations can make decisions amid increasingly complex business conditions.

Pineda said adaptability is becoming as important as scale and market leadership, arguing that companies can no longer rely on past success to maintain their position.

“It’s not as simple anymore to rest on your laurels as a B2B or enterprise company and build up to a certain size because you’re not sure that what got you there is going to keep you at the top. And that holds true for B2C companies as well.”

He said leaders must adjust as customer expectations, technology and competitive conditions evolve, making strategic planning more difficult in an unpredictable business environment.

Pineda also highlighted the value of learning from different leadership styles and management approaches. Drawing on his experience with global organizations, he said leaders can expand their ability to solve problems by adopting practices that work in different situations.

“I’ve always had the benefit of paying attention to my leaders above and trying to pick up little things. I think leadership is a story of evolving your craft and evolving yourself and really reflecting on what you can add and what you can steal with pride from others, because if it works in that situation, and if you have that in your toolkit, then you have a much more diverse way to begin to tackle problems that you will find.”

Pineda said the changing business environment has also increased the demands placed on leaders.

“It’s a harder time to be in business. It’s a harder time to be a leader. You can no longer think that you’re entitled to something. You have to earn it every day, unfortunately, and I think that’s a new normal.”

The forum discussion emphasized that organizations must continually adapt to changing market conditions rather than rely on size, history or existing market position to sustain success.
