Standfirst: Government and industry leaders unite to strengthen Philippines cybersecurity amid evolving AI-driven digital threats and risks
The Philippines is ramping up efforts to strengthen its cybersecurity posture as threats grow more sophisticated, with the launch of I AM SECURE 2026 positioning it as a key industry platform for collaboration across sectors.
Now in its ninth year, the Filipino-led cybersecurity initiative brings together government agencies, enterprises and technology providers under the theme “Soaring High: Future Ready in the Age of Intelligent Threats.” Organizers said the program reflects the urgent need for organizations to adapt to increasingly complex risks driven by automation, artificial intelligence and interconnected systems.
At a press briefing on March 18, officials from agencies including the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center and the Philippine National Police highlighted the need for a “whole-of-nation” approach to cybersecurity. This includes strengthening cyber defense capabilities, improving data protection and enhancing law enforcement response to digital threats.
Industry leaders emphasized that collaboration between the public and private sectors is becoming critical as attack surfaces expand.
“Cybersecurity today is a shared responsibility across all sectors. Strengthening collaboration is key to ensuring that we are prepared to address increasingly intelligent threats,” said Chito Jacinto, president of the Information Security Officers Group.
Jacinto noted that the modern digital environment resembles an “omniverse,” where systems are deeply interconnected and threats no longer occur in isolation. “I AM SECURE 2026 sets the stage for bringing together government, enterprises and technology leaders to operate as one unified ecosystem,” he said.
ISOG Vice President Alvin Punsalan said the organization is continuing to expand its reach across industries to embed cybersecurity awareness and capabilities at all levels. “As threats become more complex and interconnected, our organization remains committed to strengthening collaboration, upskilling the workforce and empowering organizations to adopt proactive and resilient security strategies,” he said.
From an industry standpoint, Xiameer Valdeavilla, CEO of XMS and a partner of the program, said the initiative also supports the Philippines’ positioning as a hub for cybersecurity engagements and digital innovation. She cited market projections showing continued growth in both the cybersecurity sector and the broader digital economy.
The 2026 program will run year-round, with two invitation-only CXO Connect sessions scheduled in June and August, followed by the ISOGx Conference and exhibition in October at the SMX Convention Center in Bonifacio Global City.
Backed by institutions such as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of Finance, the initiative underscores a coordinated push to secure the country’s digital future amid evolving cyber threats.
