TELECOM | PLDT, DITO sign infrastructure-sharing deal to expand PH network coverage
Under the arrangement, the companies will allow reciprocal access to eligible tower sites, colocate equipment in commercial buildings and other indoor facilities, and share international submarine cable capacity.

Competing telecommunications providers in the Philippines have agreed to share selected network infrastructure in a move aimed at expanding mobile coverage, improving service reliability, and reducing the duplication of network investments.
PLDT Inc., Smart Communications and DITO Telecommunity signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a framework for reciprocal sharing of telecommunications assets, including macro cell sites, in-building telecommunications infrastructure, and submarine cable capacity. The agreement does not involve monetary compensation between the parties.
Under the arrangement, the companies will allow reciprocal access to eligible tower sites, colocate equipment in commercial buildings and other indoor facilities, and share international submarine cable capacity through Indefeasible Right of Use agreements. The companies said the initiative is intended to maximize existing infrastructure, accelerate network deployment, and improve connectivity for consumers.
The agreement marks another step toward greater infrastructure collaboration in the Philippine telecommunications sector, where network sharing has increasingly been viewed as a way to expand coverage more efficiently while lowering capital expenditures.
“Connecting the country is a responsibility that we all share as Philippine telcos. This agreement reflects that, even as we compete in the marketplace, we can collaborate where it matters the most: accelerating digital inclusion, helping connect every Filipino, and creating greater opportunities for our people and our nation,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman and CEO of PLDT.
DITO Telecommunity President and CEO Eric Alberto said the partnership would allow both operators to improve services for their subscribers.
“This partnership that we are forging today is a modest one. This allows both companies to deliver much better services for all our respective customers. May this partnership usher and blossom into many more things so that we can have meaningful results for our companies, and more importantly, for the betterment of services for all our respective customers,” Alberto said.
According to the companies, sharing existing infrastructure instead of constructing duplicate facilities will enable more efficient capital deployment, support broader network expansion, and contribute to a more resilient telecommunications ecosystem.
