HONOR has launched its latest foldable smartphone, the Magic V5, in China. Touted as the world’s thinnest and lightest inward-folding phone, the Magic V5 introduces new design innovations, a silicon-carbon battery, and AI-driven software enhancements.
Weighing 217 grams and measuring just 8.8mm thick when folded, the Magic V5 aims to redefine portability in foldable devices. The phone features an inner 7.95-inch display for multitasking and a 6.43-inch outer screen for quick access to apps and functions. Both displays are protected by advanced materials, including a carbon fiber-reinforced inner panel and an anti-scratch NanoCrystal shield on the outer screen.
Durability is a key focus of the device, which carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance. Internally, a carbon fiber layer offers deformation resistance, while the hinge system—crafted from HONOR’s proprietary “Super Steel”—adds structural strength and smooth foldability.
The Magic V5 introduces the industry’s first mass-produced 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery with 25% silicon content, available exclusively on the 1TB model. It boasts a high energy density of 901Wh/L and is supported by a Power Enhanced Chip and SoC voltage regulator for efficient performance. Fast charging is available via 66W wired and 50W wireless options.
Camera features include a 64MP periscope telephoto lens, a 50MP wide camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The HONOR AI Falcon Camera System is designed to deliver high-quality images across various shooting scenarios.
Running on MagicOS 9.0.1, the device includes HONOR’s AI assistant, YOYO, which supports task automation such as file sharing, screen sharing, and app control. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, featuring a 3nm architecture and support for a broad range of 5G bands.
The HONOR Magic V5 is available in four colors: Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown. The device is priced from RMB 8,999 and is available now in China via online platforms and select retail stores. Global availability is expected later this year.
