Green SM launches electric ride-hailing service in Kazakhstan

An all-electric ride-hailing service has entered Kazakhstan as Green SM officially began operations in Almaty, marking the company’s first expansion into Central Asia and its sixth international market.

The launch was announced during a ceremony in Almaty attended by Vietnamese Ambassador-designate to Kazakhstan Nguyen Thanh Le, Almaty Department of Entrepreneurship and Investment Head Berikbol Shatabayevich Mandibayev, government officials, and representatives from the transportation, energy, technology, finance, infrastructure and services sectors.

Green SM said it will initially deploy a fleet of VinFast VF 6 Eco electric sport utility vehicles in Almaty. The company said the vehicles are intended for daily urban transportation and feature a quiet cabin and modern safety technologies.

The company also said it has established training programs for its drivers covering operations, safety and customer service as part of efforts to maintain service standards.

To mark the launch, Green SM is offering a 26% fare discount of up to KZT 2,626 for rides booked through its mobile application, which is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The company also announced partnerships with five organizations under its Green Alliance Frontier initiative, which aims to connect businesses and institutions focused on sustainable development across the transportation, tourism, technology and services sectors.

“Kazakhstan is a market with strong potential, dynamic growth, and rising expectations for modern services. We come to Kazakhstan with respect for the market, a long-term commitment to investment, and a desire to work alongside local partners in developing high-quality mobility solutions that meet the everyday needs of the community,” said Nguyen Quoc Tuan, Global Chief Executive Officer of GSM.

“At Green SM, we believe sustainable growth must be built on trust and meaningful value for society. That is the foundation we hope to build together with our customers, partners, and the people of Kazakhstan in the years ahead,” he added.

Green SM said its expansion into Kazakhstan is part of its broader strategy to grow its all-electric mobility services in international markets.
